So you want to race?

Whether you are new to racing or just have some question. Below we have put together a list of some of the most common questions racers and their families have.  Please check the list below to see if your questions may be answered.  If you do not see your questions answered, feel free to head over to the contact page and send us an email.

  • What Items are required before my first race?

You will need to have each of the following items.

1: Account at https://race.vchss.org (required to purchase comp card prior to the first race)

    2: Active AMA Account

    3: Competition Card

    4: Required protective gear

  • Do I need a Competition Card? (Comp Card)

    Yes!

Anyone who races a VCHSS race in district 13 is required to have a Comp Card.  Please click on the button under the "Forms" section that says "Comp Card instructions" .  This will go over the details of how to purchase your comp card.

  • Do I need an AMA Account?

    Yes!

An active AMA membership is required to race. You can click this link to sign up or renew your AMA account.

  • How do I petition my advancement?

Please download and fill out the Request for Review of Rider’s Classification.

Once filled out, please send that for to the series president at peerybrown@gmail.com

Do not send this form to the AMA.  This is to be handled by the VCHSS adminsitration.

  • Can I sign up on race day?

    Yes!

You WILL need to purchase your comp card online. This can be done the weekend of the race, but we recommend having this done prior to race day.  We are not doing paper comp card forms in 2023.  You will also need to have your AMA account current and up to date prior to signing up.  You can pay for your entry fees for the race in person after the Comp Card and AMA are current and up to date.  If your racer is a minor you will want to review the AMA Minor paperwork above to see what is required.  We would encourage everyone who has the time to try and get those items taken care of ahead of time.  Not only will that help you make sure you have everything needed, it will help keep the amount of time having to stand in line to a minimum!

  • Will I need a transponder?

Yes, every racer will need to have a working transponder.  This is how we keep track of scoring in each event.  If you do not have a transponder you can purchase one on race day for a $5.00 fee.

If you have a transponder from a previous year, there will be a "Test Station" setup at sign-ups to check and make sure yours is working and reading the correct number.

  • What time do I need to show up?

Our schedule includes both single and two day events.  Please verify on the Schedule page for that particular weekend what is in store.

Please be sure to arrive early enough to get singed up and on the starting line with enough time.  The gate typically opens around 6AM on Sunday morning.  It is recommended that you sign up online so that you can be sure to have everything you need finished up early.

  • What class should I sign up to race in?

Depending on your age, skill, or bike size we have a class that will fit everybody.

Please click the 2023 Classes Form on the information page to view a complete breakdown of the classes available.  You will also want to review the VCHSS Rules to help answer any other questions you might have in regards to bike size, wheel size, age requirements etc.

  • Want to try racing but you don't know if you're ready?

Don't worry, we have a class for you as well.

Check out our Trailriders class.  It's designed for anyone who just wants to check out racing without all the pressure.  There are no points in this class and starting on the last line, there will be no worries about holding someone up behind you.  It's a perfect class to get your feet wet in this crazy world of racing dirt bikes!

  • Can I bring my RV/Camper/Trailer or tent?

    Yes!

Most race venues typically open up the gates on Friday evening for those who want to get to the races early.  Most do not have any electrical or sewer hook ups so come prepaired with your own water and "quiet" generators.

There are no additional fees to camp.

  • What protective gear is required?

All racers MUST have long pants, long sleeve shirts, boots that cover their ankles, goggles and a DOT approved helmet to be permitted to race on any VCHSS course. A full list of rules can be found by clicking the VCHSS Rules button on the information page.

  • What is the cost to get into the race venue?

There is a $10.00 gate fee per person.

Kids 5 and under are free.

    Camping is free!

  • Are pets allowed?

    Yes!

Pets are allowed at most events.  We ask that all pets be leashed at all times.  You will want to check the schedule page for each event to see if there are any changes or additions to the rules revolving around your furry friends.
